The Project
Ceuta, a Spanish enclave located at the north of Morocco, is separated from the Old Continent by a wall put up by means of subventions of millions of Euros coming from the European Union. This enormous yet unknown border is meant to stop the migrants from Africa and Asia to arrive to the dreamed El Dorado of the North.
“Ceuta, sweet prison”, is above all a story of the imprisonment suffered by Gurjeet, an Indian migrant, who left his country in 2005 and is stuck in the enclave for three years now. Gurjeet is physically blocked by this wall that separates Ceuta from the rest of the world, but he is also imprisoned in a legislative way in and administrative maze. The fact that Ceuta doesn´t belong to the Schengen area keeps him from making it to the European continent, and to be able to find the life of a free man.
After living in the detention centre of the city during a period of time, Gurjeet, who is threatened with expulsion, nowadays lives in a makeshift camp located in the forest. With boredom, tragedies and simple pleasures, this movie wants to depict the misfortune and the small hopes of a man trapped in a system that is financed by every European, without them even being aware of it.
