Synopsis

In 1951, Jean Malau­rie, a geo­g­ra­pher and anthro­pol­o­gist, led a fourteen-month solo expe­di­tion to Green­land. He stayed in the region of Thule, a ham­let of 300 inhab­i­tants at the north­ern­most part of the planet.There he wit­nessed an irrepara­ble tragedy when the Amer­i­cans built a nuclear mil­i­tary base dur­ing the Korean war.

In 1968, a plane crashed on the floe. It was loaded with four bombs, which were pul­ver­ized. Jean Malau­rie went imme­di­ately back to Thule. There he shot a doc­u­men­tary film to show the world the every­day life of a leg­endary peo­ple who might dis­ap­pear altogether.
