Synopsis

Although Djib­ril is 28, he is, in the eyes of the Diola, still a child. He is soon to become one of the 18th gen­er­a­tion of ini­ti­ates to the Sacred Wood. Like all young peo­ple between the ages of 2 and 30 in this vil­lage in the Casamance region of Sene­gal, he will have to dance for whole days and nights and fol­low the stages of an ini­ti­a­tion rit­ual cul­mi­nat­ing in the mys­te­ri­ous Sacred Wood. Only then will he be a Sikam­bano, an ini­ti­ate, a man.
